Our events, and the aim of sharing the good news of Jesus to children and young people, simply wouldn't happen if it wasn't for our volunteers. Research tells us that it is the relationship with a team member or leader that most affects a young person's developing faith. 'You're doing something which will change people's lives,' said one young person last year. Many volunteers tell us that volunteering sees their own faith grow in leaps and bounds too... which is nice!
Our holidays, missions and international placements programmes get us in touch with more than ten thousand children and young people every year, and now we want to grow the programme so that more people can experience the good news of Jesus. To do that, we need more volunteers, so we're asking for your help.
Do you remember the first time you volunteered? Can you remember how you got involved? We've learnt that most volunteers get involved through the personal recommendation of existing volunteers. Instead of being excited about listening to us harp on about events, people are gripped by the first-hand stories of what God does at events, the stories of team-bonding and all the fun tales of working with enthusiastic children and young people. You really do make a difference, so we want to help you to get others on board.
In this section there are a number of resources for you to use to enthuse others about volunteering with Scripture Union. Show the video or use the PowerPoint presentation during your church service to show what it means to be a volunteer. Or speak to people in your small group using the hot tips.
We know that many of you already recruit new volunteers, and we're really grateful for that. But just imagine if every volunteer (that's about four thousand of you) could recruit just one more person! The scale of our volunteer events, and the number of children and young people given an opportunity to experience Jesus, would increase dramatically.
So please use these resources in the best way you can to encourage more people to volunteer with Scripture Union.
